Trends in informal care use by older adults, with a focus on partner care
In my first study, that started as my master thesis, I investigated trends in, and the inter-relationship of, the use of informal and formal home care of community-dwelling older people. This study used data from the past two decades in order to reflect the context of governmental reforms of long term care services and modernisation of informal relationships. One of the important findings was that the use of informal care decreased largely over the past 20 years and that more than 90% of all the informal care was delivered by the (marital) partners of the older adults. Therefore my dissertation thesis will concentrate on the determinants and the dynamics of partner care. I would like to present at the Research Colloquium the methods and results of my first study, as well as the basic theoretical model and hypotheses of the research on partner care.
